New Air Liquide Hydrogen Unit to supply REPSOL
10/03/2002 - Air Liquide announces that it will build a new hydrogen plant to supply a refinery owned by the leading Spanish petrochemical group Repsol YPF in La Coruña, northern Spain. Repsol YPF has chosen Air Liquide to supply all of its new hydrogen and steam needs at its La Coruña facility. In 2001, Air Liquide was awarded a similar supply contract by Repsol YPF for its Puertollano refinery, 200km from Madrid.
Hydrogen use by refineries is increasing strongly to remove sulphur from oil in order to meet the new international environmental standards.
The new unit will have a capacity of 2.8 tons of hydrogen per hour and 28 tons of steam per hour. It will also produce compressed hydrogen and liquefied CO2 to improve Air Liquide's service to its customers in the North of Spain and nearby Portugal.
Construction is due to start mid 2003 with production planned to begin during the second half of 2004.
