BASF anticipates production cutbacks due to expansion of vitamin E capacity

10/10/02 - BASF is on schedule with its expansion of the production capacity for vitamin E at its Ludwigshafen site. Modifications will be carried out between October 2002 and April 2003, and will also result in temporary production stops. In addition, necessary maintenance work will be carried out during the plants? outage.
Measures to optimize and expand vitamin E production have proceeded as scheduled since first being announced in 2001. BASF expects to achieve its target annual capacity of 20,000 metric tons by mid-2004.
During the modification phase, only a reduced production capacity will be available. Despite BASF's efforts to build up stocks, it may not be entirely possible to avoid a supply bottleneck.
With its portfolio of vitamins, BASF is among the leading suppliers to the animal nutrition industry as well as to the human nutrition and cosmetics industries. In addition to vitamins, its animal nutrition portfolio includes premixes, carotenoids, feed enzymes, organic acids, non-antibiotic growth stimulants as well as lysine - an amino acid.
