16-Jan-2003
Olympus Diagnostica GmbH today announced the acquisition of the majority of Stream Line GmbH. Streamline was founded in 1997. The company is a leading manufacturer of Laboratory automation systems for clinical laboratories. The acquisition is a further development of the former worldwide sales and marketing agreement between Olympus Diagnostica and Stream Line for the laboratory automation system OLA2500, which is produced by Stream Line. The company remains under the leadership of Dr. R. Hecht who will report to Olympus Diagnostica CEO Dr. H. Koehler. "The new agreement was established to strengthen Olympus' presence in the area of laboratory automation and to accelerate the future developments of OLA2500," said Dr. Koehler. With nearly 100 worldwide installations of OLA2500 the system is one of the most successful laboratory automation systems in the whole market yet. The new software and hardware enhancements of the OLA2500 Series III will speed up the placement rate of the system and strongly increase Olympus Diagnostica's competitiveness. Research and development of Stream Line remain in Umkirch (Germany), manufacturing will stay elsewhere in the new facilities in Freiburg (Germany). Both, second level service support for OLA2500 as well as sales and marketing activities will be continued from the European headquarters of Olympus Diagnostica in Hamburg.
