New contract signed in the Nanjing industrial basin

28-Apr-2003

Air Liquide Hangzhou, the Engineering & Construction Division of Air Liquide in China, announces the signing of a contract with CHINA PETROCHEMICAL INTERNATIONAL Co for the construction of a very large air separation unit to supply the Sinopec JINLING C0 chemical complex in Nanjing.

This plant, with a capacity of 56,000 m3 of oxygen per hour, is part of a new complex using coal or oil residues gasification to produce syngas. The customer will use the syngas to produce fertilizers (800,000 t/year). Hydrogen extracted from the syngas will also be used in an adjacent SINOPEC refinery. Designed and delivered by Air Liquide Hangzhou (ALZH), the unit is scheduled to be commissioned by the end of 2004.

The new unit will allow the customer, a leading actor in the Chinese petrochemical industry, to replace the naphtha currently used with coal or oil residues, thus adding value to these two products. Gasification technology leads not only to substantial cost reductions but also to cleaner syngas production.
