Dow Corning Exploring New Opportunities in the Photovoltaics Industry

Focus is on expanding current business through development of cost-effective material and process solutions for the manufacturers of photovoltaic products.

Dow Corning Corp. today announced its plans to explore additional opportunities in the photovoltaic industry by contributing to the improvement of raw material supply availability, cost competitiveness, and durability of photovoltaic (PV) modules sold in the fast growing and innovative photovoltaics industry. Dow Corning is building on its heritage and expertise in this sector in order to expand its role from being a pure raw material supplier to offering a number of competitive silicon based total solutions. The company is currently focused on the development of a number of cost-effective, high performance material and processing solutions, such as new encapsulation and frame sealing solutions. "Dow Corning's entry into the solar business is yet another demonstration of the company's strategic move into new marketplaces with performance-enhancing solutions," said Jean-Marc Gilson, Corporate Vice President and General Manager of Dow Corning's New Ventures Business.
