Süd-Chemie takes over bentonite activities from CECA

15-Jul-2003
Süd-Chemie AG, Munich has taken over the French bentonite activities belonging to CECA S.A., Paris, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Atofina S.A. In addition to the Honfleur Bentonite processing equipment, Süd-Chemie is also to acquire the relevant trademarks and know-how from CECA. The existing production agreement between CECA and the French company Denain Anzin Mineraux in Port-la-Nouvelle will be transferred to Süd-Chemie. Several mines in Sardinia, including the related mining rights, also form an integral part of the transaction. This new acquisition opens up additional European markets for Süd-Chemie and further strengthens its leading position. The bentonite produced by Süd-Chemie is required for numerous industrial applications, as for instance in the beverages industry to clarify wine and fruit juices, in the foundry industry as a binder for sand moulds, in civil engineering as an additive for drilling mud and diaphragm walls, as well as for the treatment of waste water in paper factories. It was agreed that no details of the purchase price would be disclosed.
