Air Liquide signs a new oxygen contract with the ENI Group in Italy
This gasification unit operated by ENI will use Air Liquide's oxygen to oxidize the heavy fuels coming from the refining process in order to produce synthetic gas. This gas in turn will be converted into electricity in the nearby power station of ENI.
The gasification process to produce energy by combined cycle is interesting because it enables the valorization of these heavy fuels through the production of additional electricity for the Italian market, while respecting the environment.
The supply of large quantities of oxygen will be ensured by a new plant expected to start production in 2005. Its full capacity (about 1,550 tons per day) will cover the needs of ENI and give the possibility to supply liquid gases to the Italian market. The new plant will be connected to the existing Air Liquide pipeline-network, supplying the most important Italian industrial basins of Northern Italy. It will optimize Air Liquide's operations and energy consumption and offer a unique and highly reliable service of oxygen supply to ENI and the other Air Liquide customers.
