Eastman Names Phil Begley as Director of Polyethylene Business

KINGSPORT, Tenn., Oct. 16, 2003 - Eastman Chemical Company (NYSE: EMN) today announced that Phil Begley has been promoted to director of Eastman's polyethylene business. Begley, who has been the national sales manager for polyethylene since 2000, has been with Eastman since 1987. Joining the company as a market development representative, Begley has held increasingly responsible positions in a variety of business organizations.

"Phil has an impressive combination of market knowledge and commercial experience with the polyethylene industry," said TJ Stevens, group vice president, Polymers Business Group. "We are confident that with Phil's leadership, our polyethylene business will continue to grow and develop."

A native of Kingsport, Tenn., Begley received a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Tennessee.

Headquartered in Kingsport, Tennessee, Eastman manufactures and markets chemicals, fibers and plastics worldwide. The company employs approximately 15,800 people in more than 30 countries and had 2002 sales of US$5.3 billion.
