Bayer Technology Services opens regional office in Shanghai
"Global expertise covering the entire life cycle of processes and plants is the trademark of Bayer Technology Services. Our objective is to use technological innovations and cost-effective solutions to secure and increase our customers' lead in global competition," said Dr. Wagner at the ceremony. Since its legal independence in October 2003 the company continues to support Bayer´s operating subgroups in the design, construction and optimization of plants and is now also able to market these services to external customers worldwide. Bayer Technology Services has been involved in the design, procurement and construction of Bayer's major investments projects worldwide, such as the isocyanate and polycarbonate units in Baytown (Texas/US) and in Caojing, where Bayer is building a large integrated polymer site. Since the beginning of the 1990s Bayer has invested more than 350 million euros into 14 production sites in China. The next stage will be the construction of a high-tech polycarbonate unit in Caojing. "Due to this project and the growing demand in China, we plan to increase the workforce of our Chinese affiliate to 90 employees," added Dr. Wagner.
Operating as a subsidiary of Bayer Technology Services GmbH, Bayer Technology Services (Shanghai) Company Ltd. has been established to serve the international engineering service company's growing number of customers in the Asia Pacific region. It provides comprehensive services ranging from product and process innovation, to engineering and construction, to plant optimization. Dr. Knors stressed that the company's competence in China lies in its excellent knowledge of the local market coupled with global expertise and its professional team. "We see great potential in this market and we are fully capable to stand locally as a trustee to our customers in evaluating and supplying high quality technical equipment made in China to the customers' various presences in global markets and, vice versa, to purchase for local customers and provide integrated solutions in the increasingly competitive business environment," said Dr. Knors.
Bayer Technology Services was established in the course of the reorganization of the Bayer Group, which this year has transferred its activities to four operating subgroups and three service companies, one of which is Bayer Technology Services. The company employs around 2,300 experts around the world, with headquarters in Leverkusen (Germany), and regional offices in Baytown, (Texas/USA), Antwerp, (Belgium), Mexico City (Mexico), Sao Paulo (Brazil), and Shanghai (People's Republic of China). Including utilities procurement for all Bayer sites in Germany, Bayer Technology Services generated revenues in 2002 of EUR 690 million.
