Dow Corning plans to expand cost-effective solutions in China

05-Jan-2004

Following the receipt of government certificate to manufacture silicone structural sealant in China, the first ever awarded to a foreign concern by the Chinese government, Dow Corning announced its plan to roll out the new cost-effective solutions to local customers. Local manufacture is a crucial component in Dow Corning's strategy to offer more comprehensive and cost-effective options to customers in the construction industry.

The manufacture certificate was formally approved and awarded to Dow Corning by the Chinese Building Metal Structure Association (CBMSA). The certificate allows Dow Corning to manufacture silicone structural glazing sealant in its manufacturing facilities in Songjiang, near Shanghai, China.

"We are very pleased with the support given by the CBMSA to make this happen, and believe this is a strong proof of our partnership with the Chinese government to serve the local needs. The cost advantages of manufacturing our products locally will be transferred to customers, who may otherwise not be able to buy from Dow Corning." WK Ho, Greater China General Manager said. "This is a major milestone in Dow Corning's corporate calendar in China to realize a purely local solution to benefit our local customers."

The new product line made in Songjiang will be offered in parallel with Dow Corning's current structural sealant products which are imported from the company's global supply chain outside of China. Local manufacturing helps drive down product cost to meet the very different needs of local customers. The new products are oxime-based and accredited with the Chinese national GB standard. They are mostly used in external curtain walls in buildings.
