Pfizer to Explore Strategic Options for Non-Core Consumer Healthcare Products in Europe

14-Jan-2004

Pfizer Consumer Healthcare, a division of Pfizer Inc, announced that it will explore strategic options for approximately 60 of its non-core consumer products in Europe, including the possible sale of these products. The majority of these products are small brands, sold in single markets only. They span a wide variety of OTC categories, as well as Personal Care.

Hank McKinnell, chairman and chief executive officer, Pfizer Inc, said, "Consumer healthcare remains one of Pfizer's three core areas of strategic focus, in addition to human prescription pharmaceuticals and animal health. This process will better position our consumer healthcare business for long-term growth in Europe, a key region for us."

"Pfizer Consumer Healthcare has outstanding growth prospects in Europe," said Marc Robinson, President, Pfizer Consumer Healthcare. "We are currently managing a product portfolio in Europe that has grown significantly in both size and complexity in recent years, largely through the acquisitions of Warner-Lambert and Pharmacia. In exploring strategic options, our goal is to sharpen our focus on our best opportunities for growth."

To assist the business in exploring its strategic options, Pfizer has retained Merrill Lynch as its financial advisor.
