Shell and BASF Rename SM/PO Joint Ventures in Asia and Europe

14-Nov-2000

The Royal Dutch Shell Group (Shell) and BASF announced today a name change for two styrene monomer and propylene oxide (SM/PO) joint ventures in Europe and Asia. The ventures are 50:50 owned by Shell and BASF.

The first joint venture, BASELL CV, owns the SM/PO plant, which commenced commercial production in Moerdijk, the Netherlands last year. This joint venture will now be called ELLBA CV.

The second one, BASELL EASTERN Private Ltd., owns the SM/PO plant in Seraya, Singapore, on which construction began earlier this year. This joint venture will now be called ELLBA Eastern Private Ltd. Construction of the plant is on schedule and targeted for start-up in the second half of 2002.

The name change is to avoid confusion and to differentiate the SM/PO business from Basell CV, the holding company within the recently formed polyolefins joint venture between Shell and BASF, with its headquarters in Hoofddorp, the Netherlands.
