Dow Announces Price Increase for Specialty Alkanolamines

Discontinues Sales of Trolamine NF

05-Mar-2004

The Dow Chemical Company has announced a price increase of US$0.03/lb. for all grades of monoethanolamine, diethanolamine and triethanolamine in North America, effective April 1, 2004. All other terms and conditions remain unchanged. Dow has also announced that it will discontinue sales of Trolamine NF beginning June 30, 2004.

"We're encouraged by the stronger-than-expected demand for ethanolamines for use in new and growing applications," says Ken Bromfield, global product manager, Ethanolamines. "At the same time, Dow must improve the reinvestment economics of this business for the long-term. And to do that, we must increase prices." Bromfield adds that despite recent price increases, "we have been unable to achieve an acceptable return on Trolamine, so we have made the decision to discontinue sales of Trolamine NF, effective June 30, 2004. This should allow our customers to find alternate sources of supply."
