BASF Coatings Expands Factory in Mexico

20-Apr-2004

BASF coatings is expanding its factory in the Mexican city of Tultitlán, 35 kilometers north of Mexico City. A new plant has now been commissioned for the manufacturing of plastics coatings in small batches of less than 2,000 liters. Another plant was built for the manufacturing of mica and aluminum dispersions. For safety, industrial hygiene, and quality reasons, the plant works as a closed system. Commissioning is an important part of our project for business development in this segment and also for the reinforcement of the Tultitlán location in Mexico.

The new plant clearly fulfills legal requirements regarding industrial hygiene, safety, and environmental protection. At the same time, an optimization of process and product quality has been achieved. "With processes that set the highest standards in productivity and work safety, we create a secure basis to continue to improve our customer focus," says Peter A. Fischer, General Manager of BASF Coatings de México in Tultitlán. In addition to automotive OEM coatings, he also sees good opportunities for growth, not least due to the new production facilities, in the areas of hang-on parts coating and plastic and metal coating . The fact that the development of a "high-performance" or "winning" team has high priority here is of vital importance. "This is a further important basis for successful customer relations and thus one of my biggest objectives," says Fischer. With an internationally experienced project team made up of employees from the areas of Marketing and Sales, Operations, Controlling, and Environment, he continues to work specifically on business development. The basis has been created. The first successes of this strategy have already appeared.
