New production line for diketo-pyrrolo-pyrrole (DPP) pigments in Monthey, Switzerland now on-stream

Next extension under construction

30-Jun-2004

The first major extension to Ciba Specialty Chemicals' plant for diketo-pyrrolo-pyrrole (DPP) pigments in Monthey, Switzerland, announced in April 2003, is complete: the new production line is now fully operational.

In response to specific market demands for DPP pigments, Ciba is expanding capacity at its Monthey plant still further, completion being scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2005. The Company is also creating additional capacity within the existing infrastructure of its plant in Newport, Delaware, USA.

"Demand for DPP pigments is high and continuing to rise," says Hermann Angerer, Global Head of Ciba Specialty Chemicals' Coating Effects Segment. "The extra capacity in Monthey and Newport will allow us to meet our customers' growing needs and to help them open up new applications for these pigments. To ensure that demand for DPP pigments can continue to be met in the future, we are at the same time actively exploring options for further production increases."

Ciba Specialty Chemicals invented DPP chemistry more than 20 years ago and demand has been growing ever since. DPP pigments are distinguished by their high versatility and well-balanced properties, making them suitable for numerous end uses, including plastic items, sophisticated electronic applications such as color filters for liquid crystal displays, automotive and industrial coatings, and inks.
