Peter Elverding - New CEFIC President

At its Annual General Assembly in Noordwijk (The Netherlands), Cefic, the European Chemical Industry Council, elected Peter Elverding as its President for a two year term.

Peter Elverding is chairman of DSM's Managing Board of Directors, a position he has held since July 1999. He was appointed to the DSM Board in 1995.

Peter Elverding was born in Eindhoven (the Netherlands) on 23 December 1948. He studied Dutch law at the university of Amsterdam, specialising in Labour Law and Organisation. He has gained extensive experience in the social/organisational field at DSM and elsewhere.

He started his career in 1973, when he joined a Dutch union of healthcare personnel. Between 1975 and 1979 he worked for Akzo Chemicals, among other things as Head of Personnel in Deventer (the Netherlands). Between 1979 and 1985 he held various posts with KBB, Koninklijke Bijenkorf Beheer, lastly as a member of the Managing Board of Magazijn De Bijenkorf B.V.

In 1985 Peter Elverding joined DSM. Between 1985 and 1995 he held management positions at various DSM units, for example DSM Resins and DSM Research, and at corporate level his last position before he was appointed to the Managing Board was Corporate Vice-president, Personnel and Organisation.
