More Polycarbonate for China

The German chemical company, Bayer, is to participate in a joint venture in China to construct a new polycarbonate facility. The JV, between Bayer and Shanghai Chlor Alkali, will construct a 50 kts/pa plant at Caojing in China. The entire project, which includes a subsequent bisphenol-a unit with a capacity of 20 kts/pa,is expected to cost some $450 million. Project managers are already considering doubling the polycarbonate capacity at a later date.
