Degussa AG of Dusseldorf,
Germany, linked up to the chemical industry's
e-marketplace
Elemica, the first corporation in the sector to enable complete order
processing via the Elemica network. This step provides Degussa the opportunity to conduct
business more efficiently, and will similarly benefit the whole of the corporation by enabling
optimization and
automation of such order-related and supply chain processes as placing
an order and invoicing.
Degussa started up Elemica-facilitated order processing by linking processes between its
Business Units
methacrylates and C4-
chemistry in a pilot project. By enabling automatic
order processing 24 hours a day, seven days a week, Elemica reduces process costs and
enhances efficiency and speed. Degussa will use the Elemica network to streamline order
handling and transaction processing and exchange delivery data and invoices between
buyer and seller, thus creating complete cross-process transparency. This integrative
e-commerce application delivers cost benefits for all participants and enables fundamental
improvement in
logistics and commercial processes.
Due to the successful realization of the Elemica pilot project, the
e-commerce application is now to be swiftly extended to other Degussa Business Units and
external business partners. Such units include Bleaching &
water Chemicals and Fine
Chemicals, which both wish to optimize sale processes involving further external users of
the Elemica network.
The transaction marketplace Elemica was founded in August 2000. Involving such investors
as
BASF,
Bayer,
Dow,
DSM,
Ciba Specialty Chemicals, etc. in addition to Degussa, it serves
as a platform for optimizing the order processing related to contract-based business within
the chemical industry. A global network for automatic order processing is to be built up by
linking Elemica to marketplaces from other segments of industry.
