14-Dec-2005

Alistair J. Steel, managing director and UK country manager for Rhodia, will be the new executive director of Euro Chlor effective June 1, 2006. He succeeds Dr Barrie S. Gilliatt, who is retiring. Prior to being named to his current position five years ago, Mr. Steel was managing director of Rhodia Eco Services (1993-2000); business director of Staveley chemicals Ltd/Rhone Poulenc (1987-1993) and previously held various positions with former MP United Drug Co (now Molecular Products) and Lankro Chemicals Ltd. Mr Steel, who stepped down as President of the Chemical Industries Association last month, is a former CIA Council member and chairman of its REACH Steering Committee. He is former chairman of the European Sulphuric Acid Association (1997-2001).

Dr. Gilliatt has been executive director at the federation's Brussels-based Secretariat since 1996. He joined Euro Chlor from ICI Chlor Chemicals (now INEOS Chlor) where he was business technical director and had extensive experience of the chlor-alkali sector. He started his ICI career as a chemical engineer in the mid-1960s.
