New Eastman Hydro-Rez Specialty Acrylic Hybrid Emulsions

02-Oct-2001

Eastman Chemical Company (NYSE: EMN) through its Lawter International subsidiary has developed a new, water-based hybrid emulsion for the graphic arts industry offering superior chemical resistance in combination with high print quality.

Growing out of the synergies created by the Eastman acquisition of Lawter, this technical innovation solves a long-standing graphic arts industry problem. "With Hydro-Rez 5159 specialty acrylic hybrid emulsion, our customers are no longer forced to choose between chemical resistance and printing ease," said Dan Romani, Eastman's business manager for waterborne polymers. "Along with outstanding print quality, inks formulated with Hydro-Rez 5159 exhibit exceptional resistance to alkaline line lubricants and harsh chemical cleaners and are easier to clean off of printing rolls than epoxy systems."

Romani explained that by allowing ink formulators to use standard, low-cost pigment dispersions, Hydro-Rez emulsions also reduce overall ink cost. "This is just the first of the new chemistries we expect to come out of the combination of Eastman and Lawter technologies," Romani noted. "We said it during the acquisition process and this innovation is the initial evidence - 'Together We're Better'".
