BASF rated as Europe's best chemical company in Sustainable Development

BASF Aktiengesellschaft has been ranked number one among the European chemical companies listed in the new Dow Jones STOXX sustainability Index. In addition, BASF is among the top 20 percent of the 600 EURO STOXX companies covered by the index. Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes were first introduced in 1999 in response to the increasing interest of investors in companies successfully managed in accordance with the principles of Sustainable Development. BASF has also been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for the first time in 2001.

Crucial factors named as contributing to BASF's top ranking include its development of innovative and eco-efficient products, the extensive use of e-commerce and a commitment to providing flexible forms of work. BASF was identified as setting standards for the entire industry with regard to its reports on the company's economic, environmental and societal activities. The explanation of the rankings paid tribute to the fact that BASF has firmly anchored its commitment to Sustainable Development a key element in its corporate growth and innovation strategy as well as in objectives for top management.
