Linde to build on-site facility for Dutch steelworks
The steel and aluminum producer Corus has commissioned the technology group Linde to build an air separation unit in IJmuiden, the Netherlands. The investment volume totals 75 million euros. The facility is being built in the context of the planned increase in steel production, for which the new air separator will supply oxygen.
"This is the largest on-site facility of its type run by Linde itself," says Dr. Aldo Belloni, member of the Executive Board of Linde AG and responsible for the business segment Gas and Engineering. The project will be overseen by Linde's Dutch subsidiary Hoek Loos B.V. The new air separation unit, which will replace four older Linde facilities, is scheduled for completion in mid-2009.
In addition to providing oxygen, the supply agreement with Corus also includes other air gases such as nitrogen, argon, xenon, krypton, neon, and helium. Some of the rare gases produced in IJmuiden will also supply other Linde customers.
