Rohm and Haas proposes new business model for Europe and European headquarters in Switzerland

07-Nov-2006

Rohm and Haas has commenced consultation and review by Works Councils and Employee Representatives Bodies in Europe on an evaluation study that started earlier in the year looking at the feasibility of centralizing the European Headquarters, bringing together the key European strategic decision makers and implementing a new business model for Europe.

This proposal is linked to the strategic initiatives of the company announced in early October. The new overall company strategy is designed to accelerate growth and enhance profitability after the realignment of the company into three business groups, the creation of new competitive business models in emerging markets, a sharper focus on aligning innovation efforts with the specific needs of customers around the world.

Importantly for the European Region is the move to a more regional focus in all aspects of business and the move of more senior executive and direct decision making into the region. Regionalization shall allow Rohm and Haas to respond more quickly providing customized responses and solutions to market needs. The proposal to create a centralized European headquarter supports this move. In the proposal, the new European headquarters would be located in Switzerland, near Lausanne at Morges and the key European management, about 45 to 50 people, are anticipated to be in place by July 1st, 2007.

To respond and support the proposals for a new centralized headquarter, new business models would be developed. At the same time, the existing legal entity structures around Europe would be changed to be able to operate a centralized European headquarter.
