SYNOPSYS LAUNCHES A NEW CHEMISTRY-AWARE GRID CONTROL

02-Jan-2001
Synopsys Scientific Systems, a subsidiary of Pharmacopeia, Inc., announces the launch of its new Accord Grid Control. This latest addition to Synopsys' range of software development tools for chemistry allows developers to display and manipulate chemical objects in a grid format alongside associated text and numerical data. Chemical objects that can be inserted into the grid include molecules, reactions, and R-group fragments. In essence, the Accord Grid Control is a light-weight chemical spreadsheet component that can be embedded and used in custom applications. The Accord Grid Control is an Active X control, making it easy to build into Windows applications, especially ones developed using a visual programming environment, such as Visual Basic, Delphi, C++ or Internet Explorer (4 upwards). Potential uses for the Grid Control include: Presenting the results of a chemical database search. Selecting reagents for a combinatorial chemistry experiment. Visualising the contents of a multi-record chemistry file (e.g. SD or RD files). Setting up and displaying the results of an R-group analysis. The Accord Grid Control can operate in one of two modes: Standard Mode, in which the data is loaded into the control where it can be manipulated, sorted, deleted, etc. and then, if required, saved to a file. Virtual Mode allows the control to act as a 'window' onto a data source, typically a database table. As the data is retrieved on demand as a user scrolls, there is no practical limit on size of the record set that can be navigated. The Accord Grid Control is a stand-alone product that forms part of the Accord Visual Objects suite. Together with Synopsys' other development tools, such as the Accord SDK and the Accord ActiveX Chemistry Control, users have access to an unsurpassed range of functions, calculators, drivers and visualisation methods to support drug discovery and chemical development. The Accord Grid control is compatible with Internet Explorer (4 upwards). A number of fully documented examples are provided, with source code, to get developers up and running quickly and easily. Both developer and run-time licences are available, which makes fielding of end-user applications very cost effective. The Accord Grid Control is based on Rogue Wave's Objective Grid component, which means that Synopsys has concentrated on what it does best -making mainstream tools and technologies chemistry aware - without having to 'reinvent the wheel'.
