LANXESS: Changes in Supervisory Board and Management Board

Supervisory Board appoints Dr. Werner Breuers as new member of the Board of Management

At its regular meeting, the Supervisory Board of Lanxess AG appointed Dr. Werner Breuers (49) to the company's Board of Management effective May 15, 2007. Breuers, who holds a doctorate in chemistry, is joining LANXESS from Dutch chemicals group Basell B.V. With this appointment, the allocation of responsibilities within the Board of Management of LANXESS AG will be finalized effective the same date.

Dr. Rainier van Roessel (49) has been appointed as the company's new Labor Relations Director and will assume all the responsibilities held by Dr. Martin Wienkenhöver (50), who will be leaving LANXESS on March 31 to assume new duties elsewhere in the industry. However, he will remain associated with LANXESS in an advisory capacity.

In addition to his new position as Labor Relations Director, Dutch-born van Roessel holds operational responsibility for the Performance Chemicals segment. Moreover, he is in charge of group functions such as Human Resources, Labor & Environmental Affairs and Group Initiatives. He is also responsible for the global country organization.

Born in Mönchengladbach, Breuers obtained his doctorate from the Rheinisch-Westfälische University in Aachen. He began his career in 1989 in the Research and Development Division of Hoechst AG in Frankfurt. After holding a number of managerial positions at Hoechst, he became Head of Sales and Marketing at Hostalen Polyethylen GmbH in 1998. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of Hostalene Polietilene Italia S.r.l. in Milan, Italy. In 1999, Breuers joined polyethylene manufacturer Elenac GmbH of Kehl, Germany, and Strasbourg, France, as Vice President Licensing and Catalysts. One year later, this company became part of the Basell Group. In April 2004, Breuers was appointed President of Basell Polyolefins Europe, headquartered in Hoofddorp near Amsterdam in the Netherlands.
