Heraeus Announces New U.S. Optics Subsidiary

To meet the rising demand for silica glass in the optics industries, Heraeus Quarzglas GmbH & Co. KG, a leading manufacturer of silica and quartz glass products and company of the worldwide precious metal and technology group Heraeus Holding GmbH, has announced the Formation of Heraeus Optics Inc. as part of the reorganization of its US subsidiary Heraeus Amersil Inc. The new Heraeus Optics subsidiary will provide silica glass used in ultraviolet and infrared optical components. Applications include microlithography, other excimer laser applications such as eye surgery, and telecommunication components. Heraeus Optics will also provide lamp tubing used in products such as flashlamps and other demanding, high power lamp applications. "We foresee considerable growth and an increase in the demand for silica glass," stated Dr. Peter Schultz, president of Heraeus Optics. "By creating a separate subsidiary, we can focus more on the market area for our optics products." "This new organization reflects our focus on the optics markets. For instance, Heraeus and its affiliates are the worldwide leaders in supplying silica glass to the microlithography stepper industry", said Dr. Grant Lu, Business Manager for Heraeus Optics. "We will continue to strengthen our leadership position in the industry and offer our customers the highest quality products available." The headquarters of the subsidiary is located in Duluth, Georgia.
