Akzo Nobel: MCA Production Doubled in China

19-Nov-2008 - China
AkzoNobel is to increase MCA (monochloroacetic acid) production capacity at its Taixing site in China to 60,000 MT/year. The plant – which was inaugurated in 2002 as a 25,000 MT/year facility – is located about 250 kilometers north-west of Shanghai. "This investment demonstrates our strong commitment to serving the growing Chinese market," explained Lars Andersson, General Manager of AkzoNobel’s MCA business. "The additional capacity will be used to grow with our existing domestic customers and further strengthen our market position." He added that the key focus will be on meeting the increasing demand for high purity MCA used in agrochemicals, carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and surfactants. The Taixing plant holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certifications. It has been honored by the local government six years in succession for its environmental excellence and recognized four years in a row for its safety performance.
