New names for Bayer products for the paper industry

28-Mar-2002

Leverkusen – To harmonize the product names of functional chemicals for the paper industry, a number of Bayer paper chemicals are to be given new names at the beginning of April – although the specifications of the products will remain unchanged. The names of the product families taken over as part of the acquisition of the paper chemicals business of Cytec Industries Inc. in September 2000 are now also to be integrated into the Bayer AG line, and various Bayer brand names are to be harmonized at the same time.

Accosize®, a product group of synthetic, alkaline sizes used for internal sizing, will go by the name of Baysize® I in the future, where the 'I' stands for 'internal'. These sizes from Bayer are currently used in more than 60 fine paper and board factories in 17 countries.

The Cypres® and Baysynthol® product families will be sold under the name Baysize® S in the future, with 'S' standing for 'surface size'. These synthetic, anionic and cationic sizes, which are used in the production of fine paper, packaging and specialty papers, optimize and refine the paper surface by improving its writability and printability and the adhesion of toners.

The product group of defoamers, which are generally used in the sizing press and have so far been known by the name Cynol®, will now be marketed under the name Baysize® D, where the 'D' in the product name stands for 'defoamer'.

Last, but not least, the synthetic wet and dry- strength agents Accostrength® and Levobond® will be grouped under the new name Baystrength™.

The change in name will not affect the range of Bayer specialty products. Even after the regrouping of the product names, the company will continue to offer an extensive line of functional chemicals that can be adapted to the requirements of the individual customer. Bayer sees itself as an all-around supplier of products for the paper industry, marketing not only functional chemicals, but also whiteners, dyes and pigments.
