Milan, Italy, April 15, 2002 – PetroChina Company, Ltd., located in Beijing, and Daqing Petrochemical Company, a subsidiary of PetroChina Company, Ltd., located in Daqing, People’s Republic of China, have signed a licensing agreement with Basell Polyolefine GmbH to use Basell’s Lupotech T technology for a new 200,000 tonnes per year LDPE plant at Daqing, Heilongjiang Province, China.
Tecnimont Spa is the selected engineering contractor for the plant, which is scheduled to start up in 2004.
Basell management joined Beijing government officials, local authorities and senior managers of other participating companies at a signing ceremony in Beijing on April 13.
After rigorous evaluation and analysis, PetroChina selected Basell’s technology over those of competitors. This is the third plant to be constructed in China using new generation Lupotech T technology. Shell’s joint venture in Nanhai and BASF’s joint venture in Nanjing will also construct plants utilising this technology.
"This plant will offer all of the advanced features of a safe, efficient and modern plant," said Werner Breuers, president, Basell Licensing and Catalysts. "Our customer will not only have a desirable product portfolio for the market, but also will achieve significant cost savings in production in the long run."
The state-of-the-art Lupotech T high-pressure, tubular reactor process is capable of producing LDPE homopolymers and EVA-copolymers with high performance properties. The technology also offers low overall manufacturing and investment costs, with stable and flexible operations.
