Great Lakes and DuPont reach heptafluoropropane agreement
HFC-227ea is the leading chemical agent replacement to Halon 1301 in the special hazards fire suppression market. HFC-227ea is a highly effective non-conductive, low toxicity, non-residue and environmentally preferred fire suppression agent, which can replace ozone-depleting Halon products. In addition, it is ideally suited to many new fire suppression applications.
Great Lakes introduced HFC-227ea to the fire protection industry in 1992 and markets the product under its trade name FM-200®. The FM-200® fire extinguishing agent has become the market leader in providing rapid, safe and environmentally responsible fire protection for high-value assets in both occupied and unoccupied mission critical facilities.
"This agreement does two very positive things for our customers in the fire protection industry," said Doug Register, Great Lakes' Global Business Director for Fire Extinguishants. "First, it puts an end to any possible customer confusion related to conflicting interpretations of patent law relating to the use and sale of HFC-227ea. Second, Great Lakes and DuPont will jointly and aggressively promote the use of heptafluoropropane as the preferred clean agent for fire protection/prevention applications."
As a result of this agreement, in any country in which either Great Lakes or DuPont hold patents, FM-200® and FE-227™ brands are the only heptafluoropropane products approved for use in any fire suppression/prevention applications covered by the patents.
