Johnson Matthey Secures New Catalyst Business with DaimlerChrysler To Meet 2004 Emissions Regulations

17-Jun-2002
WAYNE, Pa., June 14, 2002 - Johnson Matthey announced today a multi-year contract with DaimlerChrysler to supply catalyst washcoats for future model year vehicles. These vehicles must meet the strict Federal Tier 2 and California Low Emission Vehicle (LEV) standards. "Johnson Matthey's world class automotive catalyst formulations and state-of-the-art manufacturing processes will help these vehicles meet these stringent emission requirements," stated Mike Russ, Johnson Matthey's DaimlerChrysler Account Manager. Johnson Matthey's Precision Coater(R) technology precisely applies measured doses of platinum Group Metals (PGMs) to the tightest PGM tolerances achieved in the industry. This combination of advanced catalyst formulations and Precision Coater manufacturing provides the design flexibility to install zoned catalysts, for even further precious metal savings. Zoned catalysts can achieve the desired emission reductions by targeting the most appropriate precious metal to its optimum position on the catalyst. This reduces total precious metal usage, and reduces system costs. "We are pleased to be providing this technology to DaimlerChrysler," remarked David Cetola, Johnson Matthey Catalytic Systems Division's Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing.
