Bodo Möller Chemie opens another production facility in Egypt

19-Dec-2019 - Egypt

With the opening of a new production facility in November 2019, Bodo Möller Chemie expands its production volume at the Egypt location. In the future, the new facility will produce solvent-based epoxy resins and polyurethanes as well as packaging fillers, thereby significantly increasing the capacity of the already existing plant. To date, 8000 metric tons are produced per year with 18 mixers of 250 kilograms to 4000 liters. Now, three additional mixers – each one with 1500 liters – will increase the volume by 1000 metric tons per year. Using three automated filling lines, the products are filled in customer-friendly container sizes of 100 grams to five kilograms. Both production facilities allow mixing and formulating with vapor, under nitrogen, and with higher temperatures of up to 120 °C. In modern installations, epoxy resins, polyurethanes and silicones are processed with regard to their viscosity, color and reactivity. Parallel to the production capacity, the company has also significantly increased the on-site workforce.

More need requires more capacity

In 2015, Bodo Möller Chemie took over the Sadat City production site together with the Alexandria and Cairo labs and sales offices from Huntsman Corporation, establishing its company-own Polymer System House with them. In the future, the new production stage will take over the manufacturing of solvent-based products; the already existing plant is meanwhile concentrating on the manufacturing of aqueous systems. “We are pleased that demand from Egypt and the surrounding countries for the services of Polymer System House has increased so immensely that an expansion of production capacity has become necessary,” says Yehia Desouky, Managing Director of Bodo Möller Chemie Egypt. The location, which has existed since 1988, was built by Ciba Geigy as production facility for floor coating systems, paints and varnishes, mortars, as well as tank coating systems.

Specialist for formulations

The Bodo Möller Chemie team at the Egyptian location performs various mechanical and chemical tests on finished products, including impact, tensile and shear strength, pressure resistance and scratch resistance tests as well as DSC and Karl Fischer titration. “We are proud to be not only a leading sales and distribution partner of leading manufacturers, but also to be able to supply the Middle East market with its own products. Added to this is the wide-ranging knowledge that we can offer for the further processing of the products,” explains Frank Haug, CEO of the globally active Bodo Möller Chemie Group.
