Dow Plans Expansion at Stade, Germany Plant

The Dow Chemical Company has announced plans to expand its plant producing METHOCEL* cellulose ethers in Stade, Germany beginning July 2001 pending approval of the filed permit application for increased production of the product. This expansion is one part of a global effort to add nearly 15 million pounds of METHOCEL cellulose ethers between now and early 2003. The company expects the Stade facility to come on stream in late 2002.
The plan to expand the Stade site continues the effort by Dow to increase global capacity for METHOCEL cellulose ethers, which last summer announced plans for expansion at its Plaquemine, Louisiana plant. "We are dedicated to servicing the needs of our customers now and into the future," Jerry Doyle, vice president for Water Soluble Polymers at Dow, says. "There is a strong global demand for these products and the overall expansion investment at our plants over the next couple of years further demonstrates our commitment to the growth in this area."
METHOCEL cellulose ethers are a family of water-soluble polymers derived from cellulose. METHOCEL cellulose ethers are currently used in products across multiple industries - including building materials, food, pharmaceuticals and personal care - as thickeners, binders, film formers and water-retention agents, as well as suspension aids, surfactants, lubricants, protective colloids and emulsifiers.
