Boeringer Ingelheim selects Honeywell to automate new bio-pharmaceutical plant in Germany

17-Dec-2003
Honeywell Process Solutions announced today that Boehringer Ingelheim, one of the world's 20 leading pharmaceutical companies, has awarded Honeywell to implement Experion® Process Knowledge System(tm) at its recently opened new bio-pharmaceutical plant in Biberach. The plant in Biberach is the largest bio-pharmaceutical production plant in Europe. The integrated process control system helps Boehringer Ingelheim to capture and manage information to safeguard and increase quality, safety, productivity, profitability and overall operational effectiveness. The scope of this project is significant. While a typical batch installation is up to 200 phases, the new Boehringer Ingelheim facility runs more than 2,000 phases. To automate processes and optimize operations throughout the facility, Honeywell implemented Experion and advanced software applications. Experion will encompass about 90 redundant controllers, approximately 20,000 Input/Output points, more than 2,000 phases combined with more than 1,000 batch operations and unit recipes to be handled and a significant amount of local operator stations.
