Closer cooperation between CyBio and Roche

New dispensing technology for HTS systems

19-Jun-2001 - Germany
Jena's CyBio AG and the Swiss healthcare group Roche have reached an agreement on the use of technologies and patents. The goal is further development and marketing of dispensing technologies in the sub-microliter range. This will make the use of so-called "high throughput screening systems" more accurate and economical. All Roche HTS systems will be dispensing more accurately than ever, even before the general market introduction next year. The company has developed a new contactless dispensing technology and licensed it to CyBio. The Jena firm will now bring the technology to market maturity and market it internationally. With the new dispensing technology, substance samples, assay reagents, protein solutions and cell suspensions in the sub-microliter range are sprayed without contact onto screening plates. Extremely fine and precise dispensing through new microvalves makes it possible to conserve expensive test substances. This speeds up costly test runs. The technology is to arrive on the market at the beginning of 2002. Until then, all the required tests will be conducted in the research laboratories of CyBio AG. CyBio develops and markets complete systems to search for active ingredients for new medicines. The company is already a world market leader in liquid handling for the 384-well plate format, and also very successful in liquid handling on 1,536-well plates. This makes CyBio the ideal partner for Roche in the further development of the new dispensing technology. The Jena firm can further improve its competitive edge in the market through its cooperation with Roche.
