Cabot Corporation Annouces Major Carbon Black Capacity Expansion in Brazil

Cabot Brasil, a subsidiary of Cabot Corporation, announced its intention to build a new state-of-the-art Carbon Black unit at its facility in Mauá, São Paulo, Brazil. The expansion will increase installed capacity of the Brazilian facility to 120,000 metric tons (MT)/year. Start-up for the new unit is scheduled for late 2005.

Planning for the construction of this new unit, including the process to obtain necessary government and other approvals, is underway. When completed, this will be the third Cabot carbon black unit located at Mauá. The facility is ISO 9002 and ISO 14001 certified.

Bill Brady, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Carbon Black, said, "This capacity expansion will enable us to respond to increasing demand and the needs of our customers. We are very positive about the South American carbon black market and the region continues to be integral to our global carbon black strategy."
