Ciba Specialty Chemicals expands production in China and invests in new facilities in Taiwan

29-Mar-2004

Ciba specialty chemicals is expanding its production facility for antioxidants in Shanghai, China, with an additional capacity of 10'000 tons per year. At the same time, Ciba is transferring the existing antioxidants production from its Kaohsiung site in Taiwan to Shanghai, which will provide the company with a greater economy of scale and backwards integration into key raw materials. The antioxidant form-giving capacities for granular- and liquid forms and blends in Kaohsiung and Shanghai will also be expanded in order to ensure a continuous high level of service to customers in the fast growing polymer industry in China, Taiwan and the whole Asia Pacific. Ciba Specialty Chemicals will, in addition, invest in its facilities in Taiwan to produce innovative products for the personal care market, taking advantage of the excellent infrastructure and skilled workforce at its fully-owned Kaohsiung site. Armin Meyer, Chairman and CEO of Ciba Specialty Chemicals, emphasized the importance of the investment: "Both investments in Shanghai and in Kaohsiung demonstrate our commitment to Asia and represent a further significant step in Ciba's growth strategy."
