Linde is further expanding its gas business in Malaysia

16-Jun-2004

The company has just acquired Hydrogas Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., Kuala Lumpur from the Norwegian company and global market leader in the production of mineral fertilizer, Yara International ASA, Oslo. Hydrogas Malaysia is the largest provider of liquid carbon dioxide (CO2) and dry ICE for the food and drinks industry in Malaysia and Singapore. "Our Asian investments are targeted at those markets and sectors with high growth rates, where we can put our applications technology to excellent use", said Dr. Aldo Belloni, member of the Linde AG Executive Board and Head of the Gas and Engineering Business Segment.

Until now, Linde's gas activities in Malaysia and Singapore have been related mainly to oxygen, argon, acetylene and special gases, as well as to applications technology for cutting and welding in the metal processing sector. The company has been selling gases across the country via its own branch and distribution network since 1994, and will employ more than 150 people after the takeover. The takeover of Hydrogas Malaysia is part of Linde's drive to expand its existing gas offering in the fast-growing food market segment, and will make the company the third-largest gas provider in Malaysia.
