Merck KGaA Appoints Peter Shotter to Head Consumer Health Care Division

Merck KGaA announced that it has named Peter Shotter, 50, as the new head of the Consumer Health Care (CHC) division. Shotter follows Volker Keidtel, 63, who took over CHC management in 1999 and went into retirement effective October 1, 2004.

Mr. Shotter joined Merck in February 2002 as Managing Director of Seven Seas Ltd., the Consumer Health Care Business in the UK. Mr. Shotter has considerable experience in consumer health care. Before joining Merck, he held various management positions with Boots The Chemists, Ltd. (BTC), the UK's largest pharmacy chain, where he served as Director of Healthcare Businesses and Director of Stores.

In his new position, Mr. Shotter is a member of the Pharma Management Board, which is led by Prof. Dr. Bernhard Scheuble, the Chairman of the Executive Board of Merck KGaA.
