Degussa Expands Superabsorbents Capacities

10-Mar-2005
Degussa AG is investing in the growth market of superabsorbents - the specialty chemicals company is to expand its superabsorbents capacities in Krefeld by 2007. At the same time, the expansion of acrylic acid production in a joint venture with Rohm & Haas in Marl will secure the raw material supply for its own superabsorbents business. The investment volume will total more than 40 million euros. In order to cover increased demand in the NAFTA region, Degussa is set to bring additional capacities of 40,000 tonnes of superabsorbents on stream in Greensboro (USA) as early as April 2005. The growth in superabsorbents has accelerated strongly since last year. With these new investments Degussa is strengthening its position as the market and innovation leader. In 2004 the Superabsorber Business Unit generated sales of 432 million euros with a workforce of around 500. Degussa´s superabsorbents activities are global, with production facilities in Germany (Krefeld and Marl) and in the USA (Garyville and Greensboro).
