CERESANA has completed an up-to-date study of the plasticiser market.

18-Oct-2005

Plasticisers are chemicals, which are added to a variety of products, like plastics, rubber, paints and adhesives, in order to make them flexible and elastic. More than 5 million tonnes of plasticisers, with a total value of over 7 billion Euro, are annually used in various areas of application.

The total consumption and production quantities continue to increase. However in China and India the increase is far above average, whereas the quantities in Europe and in the USA will stagnate by 2010. There are also considerable shifts between the types of plasticisers which are being used. CERESANA has presented and elucidated these developments by means of in-depth company data, like production quantities and capacities, and with developmental prognoses for branches, products and regions.

Some of the plasticisers in use are considered as being harmful to the environment and health. The European Union has recently banned the use of 6 phthalate plasticisers in toys. CERESANA has researched, analysed and concisely processed the environmental and health concerns associated with plasticisers, as well as the legal situation, together with an overview of over 150 plasticisers and 200 market participants.

The objective data collection was carried out by means of extensive secondary market research, questionnaires and interviews with experts from companies, authorities and associations. The independent market study, with over 250 pages, provides the most extensive global market transparency to date and is now available.
