BASF increases capacity for Neopentylglycol

04-Jul-2007

BASF JCIC Neopentylglycol Col, Ltd. (BJNC) a 60/40 joint venture company of BASF and Jilin Chemical Industrial Co., Ltd in Jilin, North East China, will expand its Neopentylglycol (NPG) capacity by 10,000 metric tons. Together with the capacity increase of BASF in Ludwigshafen, Germany, announced this March, the global annual NPG capacity of BASF will be 165,000 metric tons by the end of 2007.

The capacity increase is due to a growing demand for the versatile chemical intermediate, mainly in coatings applications. For example, NPG is a tried and tested essential component for eco-efficient powder coating resins. It is also used for unsaturated polyester and alkyd resins, which serve as binders in a variety of liquid coatings. As the global market leader for NPG, BASF is the only company in the world that has production facilities in Europe, NAFTA and Asia. As its production benefits from backward integration, BASF offers its customers high delivery reliability.
