Brenntag invests in the future of its Hamburg location

13-Nov-2007

Brenntag GmbH, the German subsidiary of Brenntag, the world market leader in chemicals distribution, re-opened its logistics center in Hamburg on November 9, 2007. After a construction period of 2 years, the entire infrastructure of the company's 55,000 m2 grounds has been updated and modernized.

"By investing in the future of our Hamburg subsidiary we have responded to the rising demands of our customers and suppliers. We are now able to increase the efficiency of our process flows and fulfill our high requirements for a comprehensive professional distribution network across Germany", says Uwe Schültke, Managing Director and responsible for the Industrial Chemicals Division of Brenntag GmbH.

Major aspects of the modernization include state-of-the-art technology in the filling, order-picking, mixing and loading / unloading areas, a new office building with a high-quality laboratory and seven new warehouses providing a covered storage area of 10,000 m2 and equipped with the most up-to-date storage technology and sprinkler systems. These upgrades have turned the Hamburg location into a crucial center for Brenntag's chemicals distribution in North Germany. An additional focal point included the innovative and future-orientated field of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) filling. In preparation for the upcoming GMP certification, a clean room with new filling technology was built that meets the GMP requirements, as well as a pump island with Dedicated Lines (material-specific pipelines). The integrated system is rounded off by two automatic sluices leading into the new warehouses for full and empty containers.
