Management Change in Research and Development at Wacker-Chemie

Dr. Volker Frey (63), since 1996 President of the Consortium für elektrochemische Industrie GmbH and Head of Corporate Research and Development at Wacker-Chemie GmbH, Munich, will retire on February 28, 2002.

Professor Johann Weis (57) has been appointed to succeed him effective March 1, 2002. Professor Weis is currently Head of the Resins, Silanes and Silica Business Unit of Wacker's Silicones Division.

After joining the Consortium in 1968, Dr. Frey concentrated on research in the field of organic chemistry. In 1972, he transferred to production in the Silicones Division and assumed management of global production in 1990. There, he gained considerable experience with customer-oriented applications. When he returned to the Consortium, his practical expertise enabled him to instill a consistent market-oriented approach to research.

Professor Johann Weis came to Wacker-Chemie in 1972, joining the Silicones Division. In 1987, he headed the Silicones Division?s newly-created Research and Development Department and, in 1997, became head of the Resins, Silanes and Silica Business Unit. In 2000, Professor Weis was appointed honorary professor of industrial inorganic chemistry at the University of Würzburg.
