Variable area flow meters enable precise determination of volume flows in pipe and tube systems for gases and liquids. The measurement principle is based on a calibrated float that is lifted by the media flow and allows direct reading of the volume flow.

Material Diversity for Different Applications

The flow meters are available in various materials to ensure optimal chemical resistance and temperature stability. Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) offers transparency for visual control up to 65°C. Polypropylene (PP) is characterized by excellent chemical resistance and KTW approval. Polyamide 6 (PA6) convinces with high mechanical strength and wear resistance up to 75°C.

For demanding applications, fluoroplastics are available: Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) offers temperature resistance up to 130°C and excellent chemical resistance. Perfluoroalkoxy (PFA) and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) ensure highest chemical resistance at temperatures up to 130°C. Metallic versions made from brass and stainless steel complement the range for robust industrial applications up to 120°C.

Technical Equipment and Functions

Many models feature integrated needle valves for fine dosing of volume flow. The precise guidance of the float in the calibrated measuring tube enables reliable and reproducible measurement results. The devices operate energy-autonomously without external power supply and are independent of the electrical conductivity of the medium.

Application Areas and Fields of Use

The flow meters find application in apparatus construction, water treatment plants, chemical and industrial furnace construction as well as for monitoring cooling circuits. In laboratory technology, they enable precise measurements of smallest volume flows for analytical procedures. Measurable media include gases such as argon, helium, carbon dioxide, hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen as well as organic and inorganic liquids.
