Bayer Chemicals boosts Macrolex® synthesis capacity

13 million euros for expansion of the Leverkusen facility

17-Sep-2002

Leverkusen September 16, 2002 - Bayer Chemicals, a division of Bayer AG, Leverkusen, has invested some 13 million euros in expanding its Macrolex® capacity at the Leverkusen site. Among other things, a new synthesis facility has been integrated in the existing plant since July 2002. This step was necessitated by the high growth rates on the global market. The site's good infrastructure was one argument favoring the expansion of the Leverkusen facility. The implementation of the construction project was audited by TÜV Rhein-land to DIN ISO 9001. The investment is also part of the effort to safeguard jobs at the Leverkusen site. The lightfast, weather-resistant colorants from the Macrolex® range are used to put color into plastics for a wide variety of applications, including household goods, such as housings for vacuum cleaners and coffee-makers, children's toys and sports equipment, automotive tail lights and PET bottles. Another important application in the automotive industry is replaceable, red plastic paneling (engine hoods, doors and fenders). Not least, the colorants are also used in the communications sector: the brilliance of colored mobile phones and computer housings would be impossible without the use of these products.

An improvement in the products' already good market position is supported by patented microgranule technology: the virtually dust-free form in which the colorants are supplied makes them easier to handle and process. An ecological study confirms the safety of the Bayer colorants and the raw materials used - both in production and during subsequent use and disposal.

Based on the latest process control methods, the products are manufactured within close tolerances and with maximum quality.
