Solutia Announces Nylon Fiber Price Increase

21-Feb-2003

Solutia Inc. has announced price increases on nylon carpet fibers for both the residential and commercial carpet market segments. An increase of up to thirteen percent on both residential and commercial carpet fibers will be effective March 3, 2003 for residential carpet fibers, and April 1, 2003 for commercial carpet fibers. These increases are for branded and unbranded sales, nylon staple and BCF.

"While we have worked hard to aggressively increase productivity and reduce fixed costs, that is not sufficient to off-set the tremendous increase we've seen in operational costs -- ranging from labor and medical expenses, to raw material and energy costs. Raw materials and energy have had a sustained increase which has accelerated sharply in recent months, leaving us little choice but to raise prices to partially offset the impact," said Brad Hill, Vice President of Marketing and Business Management for Solutia's Integrated Nylon Platform.
