Omnexus Enhances Site for European Users

22-Mar-2001

Omnexus (www.omnexus.com), the plastics industry's first e-marketplace, will soon extend its online reach to Europe. Dow Plastics† is one of more than 20 global suppliers who will offer products to the European marketplace through Omnexus.

Omnexus announced today the first of several major enhancements that will significantly increase the site's functionality for European users. Central to the upgrade is site availability in French, German and Spanish, which will allow plastics industry professionals to seek products and transact business in these key market languages.

To inaugurate its European presence, Omnexus plans a phased introduction that will lead by stages to full transactional capability. During the initial rollout, users can enter the Omnexus site and register to evaluate the products available within their own country. Users will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the site's features and advantages, reviewing online product catalogues and carrying out product searches and polymer comparisons based on a full range of performance parameters - supported by documentation such as MSDS, COAs and regulatory compliance listings. In addition, users will have access to content such as a daily industry news service and plastics technology related features and events information.

In the third quarter of this year, Omnexus will go "live" with full online business transactional capability in each of its European language formats. This will include multi-currency purchasing facilities and aggregated, electronic invoicing, order tracking and online customer service.

According to Bill Ray, global director of eBusiness for Dow Plastics, once Omnexus is fully online in Europe, it will significantly simplify business interactions for customers by allowing them to access a wide range of products and services on the same platform.

"As technology transforms the world into a 24-hour marketplace, the industry is demanding the convenience and expanded choice new electronic channels of commerce can offer. Dow is responding to this by building a diverse range of transactional capabilities, including Omnexus, that give customers an opportunity to select how they purchase Dow products, and make it faster and easier for them to do business with us," Ray said.

Omnexus has offered transaction services in the United States since last fall. For the U.S., Dow products available on Omnexus include engineering plastics (PC, ABS, etc.), polystyrene, polypropylene, polyethylene and automotive resins. Dow is currently designing the details of its initial material and service offering for Europe.
