Lurgi to build the largest edible oil plant in Europe and the CIS

24-Feb-2004
A new edible oil plant will go on stream in Rostov on the Don in late 2004. Lurgi AG, Frankfurt am Main, is building the plant for Jug Rusi, one of the leading Russian agricultural holdings. Lurgi's scope of services covers the engineering, supply, erection and commissioning of the plant as well as operator training. In future, edible oil and fodder meal are to be produced in the new plant using soybeans, sunflower seeds and rapeseed as feedstock. The edible oil is intended for final use as a healthy food rich in vitamins while the meal constitutes a valuable chicken, cattle and hog feed on account of its high protein content. The plant in Rostov comprises a seed treatment, seed pressing and a downstream extraction step. One single extractor will process 3,000 tons of raw seeds per day. With this capacity, this plant will be the largest single production unit in Europe and the CIS. In future, as many as four to six trainloads of raw seeds and finished products can be handled here per day. The sheer size of the plant will also require the corresponding logistics. With its own port on the Don, the customer has the decisive advantage of direct access to the Asov Sea and the Black Sea. With this order Lurgi was able to consolidate its market position in the field of edible oil extraction. Up to now, Lurgi has built over 200 extraction plants with capacities ranging from 100 to 4,000 tons per day over several decades. The Lurgi technology chains allow the complete processing of such renewable resources from extraction through to desodorization.
