Celanese Acetate and China National Tobacco Corporation to Explore Expanding China JVs

n response to forecasted growth in demand for diacetate tow cigarette filters in the People's Republic of China, Celanese Acetate LLC, a subsidiary of Celanese AG, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the China National Tobacco Corporation to expand their Chinese joint venture capacities.
The two parties have formed a joint work team to complete a feasibility study on the projected expansion. The feasibility study is targeted for completion and submission to the parties by yearend 2001.
"We look forward to exploring with the China National Tobacco Corporation how we can continue meeting the growing needs of this market," said Gerold Linzbach, president and general manager of Celanese Acetate LLC.
Celanese and the China National Tobacco Corporation announced their first joint venture to produce diacetate tow in Nantong in 1986. Since then, the two companies formed two other joint ventures for plants in Kunming and Zhuhai.
